Racing towards freedom from

pediatric brain cancer!

General Information - COVID-19 UPDATES!

Welcome to the 13th Annual Birthday Bash and Dash! Again, we invite you to begin celebrating your freedom on the Fourth of July with us and help us realize the possibility of one day celebrating every child's freedom from pediatric brain cancer.

Like the last twelve years, the Birthday Bash and Dash is a great way to kick off your 4th of July holiday. However, our event is going to look a little different this year. Amidst the uncertainty in the world right now due to the COVID-19 pandemic that has greatly impacted our lives, the SFSF Board was forced to make a difficult decision. Normally during this time we are in deep with race and event planning. However, the current situation has forced us to reevaluate our plans.

We will be moving forward with our event, but we have decided to make it a virtual race. This means you can run, walk, and support our event from any location you choose, at any time you choose, and at any distance you choose. It you've never been able to attend our race due to our location in Ohio, this us your year! And for our dedicated supporters who have attended our race in person, you can still register, run or walk, and support SFSF! Although our lives have been put on hold, pediatric brain cancer has not, and we continue to receive family grant requests daily.

We realize the situation regarding COVID-19 changes daily, and we are keeping a plan in our back pocket. We have the option tow kr with Hermes to have a timed event that will start at Walker Road Park on July 4th, if things changes enough by then, and it is deemed safe to do so. It will look different than past years, but might allow us to see so many familiar faces joining together to celebrate Sophie's birthday and to support such an important cause. Information about this option will be forthcoming as we approach Sophie's birthday and as we are given updates.

The parts of our event that we cannot plan for are the kids' activities, our food tent, and our raffles. We rely on the donations from our friends and community to support these efforts, but given the current economic situation and the struggle many businesses are facing, we are unable to secure the necessary donations. IN addition, these activities require more than the recommended 6ft. distance and require a great deal of pre-planning.

We are hopeful that we will be able to come together in some way, shape, or form on July 4th to celebrate what would have been Sophie's 17th birthday, while raising much needed funds to fulfill the mission of the foundation that was started in her name.

Everyone who registers by June 14, will have their shirts delivered or mailed to them in time to wear on July 4. registrants on June 15 and after can also sign up to receive a shirt (to be ordered after July 4 and mailed when available) or all registrants can sign up and opt out of a race shirt.

This event is one of our most significant fundraisers of the year to support our three-part mission and we urge you to sign up if you are able to do so. We realize that many families are experiencing financial hardships, therefore we are offering a discounted family/group rate for up to five people.

The option to set up a fundraising page and raise funds as part of your registration is still open. And we need your help with this more than ever! It's easy to do and we are available to answer any questions you have.

Due to the potential of decreased participation, reduced sponsorships from businesses, lack of proceeds from raffles, food, and kids' activities, we are looking at the reality of a substantial decrease in profits. By fundraising you can really make an impact on the funds we are able to raise; and maybe you'd be willing to donate the money you might spend at the race.

As we well know, many of you have been affected financially by the pandemic; we understand and ask for whatever support you are able to give.

We can all band together -- from near and far -- to still make this event a success!

Stay safe and healthy, and thank you for your support!!

LATEST ANNOUNCEMENTS

RACE UPDATE AS OF APRIL 2020

ATTENTION: We are using RunSignUp for all race registrations and event fundraising! If you have any questions or problems with registration, please do not hesitate to email Sarah.

NEW THIS YEAR: Virtual race registration will look the same as it has in the past. We will have two event options: 5K and 1.5 Mile Walk. We will keep these event options in the hopes that we will be able to gather last minute at the park to run and walk together. If we do so, the 5K event will be timed so we need to know the event for each registrant. If the event remains a virtual race, it is up to you to choose your distance, location, and time!

As in the past, we have different pricing for ages 11 and up ($30) and 10 and under ($25). In addition, this year we are offering a discounted family/group rate ($100) for up to five people (no age restrictions). When registering, this option will be in a drop-down menu under the heading "Multi Person Pricing," which you will see after you have entered each registrant. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact Sarah.

REGISTRATION AND FUNDRAISING: You can register multiple individuals under one account and they will each have their own individual fundraising page...even all the kids under 18! During registration you can customize your fundraising pages (if you choose to be a fundraiser) and can also create a team fundraising page that all individual pages set up as part of registration will be linked to.

If you do not customize during registration, you will also have the option via the registration and fundraising confirmation emails, to customize your page (which will include goal setting, a message to your potential donors and a picture) and share your fundraising page. You will also be able to access your event(s) and your fundraising page(s) with your RunSignUp login.

As far as the actual fundraising for SFSF for the Bash and Dash, we very much appreciate each and every donation that you solicit on our behalf, however, again this year, any offline donations you collect (checks or cash), will need to be mailed to SFSF so we can enter it on your fundraising page. We promise to respond in a timely fashion once we receive your offline donations, so that your current fundraising total will show up on your page. If you collect cash donations, please use the pledge form and be sure to include it when you send or drop off your donation. Especially if you choose to keep the cash and write your own check. That way we can be sure to list each donor and their amount accordingly.

Offline donations should be mailed to:
SFSF
31722 Leeward Ct
Avon Lake, OH 44012

If you have any questions about registration or fundraising, please do not hesitate to email Sarah.

Become a Fundraiser!

It's exciting to be planning our 13th Annual Bash and Dash, but what's more exciting is the fact that so many participants join our cause each year as loyal SFSF supporters. This Annual Birthday Bash and Dash is the major fundraiser for Smiles For Sophie Forever, and meeting our three-fold mission takes work, commitment, and a united effort. As our Foundation grows, so does the list of those who are seeking our help and financial assistance. As 2019 closed out, surpassed the $1.2MILLION mark in money donated and granted! But we aren't stopping now, so this year, we need your help to keep fulfilling our mission! We once again implore you to not only participate by registering for the event, but to participate fully by donating and by creating your own personalized fundraising page.

Upon registration, if you so choose, a individual fundraising page will automatically be created for you. You can choose to customize the page during registration or after via the link in the confirmation email, or just use it as it. Then all you need to do is share your page with your family and friends...do you have TEN friends who would donate $10 to your efforts? To our efforts to help families with children diagnosed with pediatric brain cancer, to support St. Jude, and to help fund pediatric brain cancer research? Please choose to be a fundraiser. It takes little effort, but lots of love!

*Fundraisers need not participate on race day, fundraising deadline is August 3, 2020

Fundraise as an individual:
If you don’t want to join a team, you can still fundraise as an individual. When you register for the event, if you so choose, an online fundraising page will automatically be created for you. During registration you can customize your fundraising page or once your registration is complete, you will receive an email from RunSignUp with links to customize your online fundraising page (and you can always login later to your RunSignUp account at any time to customize your page). Once you’ve had a chance to personalize your page (or use the generic page) email the webpage out to all your friends and family and help us reach the $100,000 goal!!

Fundraise without registering for the race:
If you'd like to help us reach our $100,000 goal for this year's event, but are unable to attend or don't want to register for the race, you can still help us by creating an online fundraising page. Simply go to the main donation page, scroll down to the middle of the page and select the grey box that says "Become a Fundraiser." From here you can create and customize your individual fundraising page, create and customize a team fundraising page, or join an existing team.

MAIL-IN OPTION:
If you don’t want to register online, you may download, print and mail in the registration form. In order to also become a fundraiser if you register via the mail-in option, follow the instructions above to "Fundraise without registering for the race" to create and customize your fundraising page.

SOLICITING DONATIONS IN PERSON:
If you’d prefer to help us fundraise by soliciting your donations in person, you can download and print out the pledge form to track your donations. You do not have to register for the race nor attend the day's festivities to help us fundraise! All checks should be made out to Smiles For Sophie Forever. You can mail in your pledge form and donations to the address on the form.

THANK YOU!

It is through these individual fundraising pages that we were able to exceed our fundraising goal for our inaugural event, so please consider creating a page to help us meet our $100,000 goal for this 12th year of the Birthday Bash and Dash!!

If you have any questions about creating a team, a personal fundraising page or any other questions related to fundraising for this year’s event, please contact Sarah at sarah@smilesforsophieforever.org
